Did some work – errands – and home to make dinner and tend to the kids – pets and house – and, very, very grateful that Jonathan’s soccer practice was canceled! That’s one less thing on my “To Do” list.
Today is Realtor Open House Day. Carolyn was so kind to set up all the homes we were going to view – along with a Pre-Revolutionary 1732 Homestead that was not on the Open House list, but we were very anxious to pre-view for potential clients. But first, before our fun afternoon, I went to the New Fairfield Post Office, then the New Fairfield Hardware store – Joe needed some caulking for repairs he’s doing to our front doors.

House #7 – Our absolute favorite! 148 Hurds Corners Road in Pawling, NY – a circa 1732 - Pre-Revolutionary Homestead – the Keeping Room which was once a tavern.

Wide Plank Floors
and the best part – up in the attic, hidden under floor boards was the secret room…

Other features of this historic home, 3 staircases, 3 fireplaces and 2 wood burning stoves, beehive oven with cooking crane, beamed ceilings – perfect for the antique lover!
Views from rear terrace of apple & peach orchard, gardens and access to a spectacular 90′ waterfall
After viewing this wonderful home from the basement to the attic – and having a tasty lunch – Eva, Carolyn and I were off down Quaker Hill which is on the edge of the Connecticut and New York border and is recognized for its History and beautiful views including horse farms…
With full tummy’s – we made our way to Patterson, NY to view another home – 42 Jordan Drive – Patterson, NY ~ CLICK ~ to View Listing Sheet - the listing agent is another Realtorfriend – Jeannine. This cozy home is cute as a button and has had many updates making it a move-in ready home.Offered at $189,000.
Then I was off, solo, to Southbury, CT – to meet with an appraisor for clients purchasing their first home. I arrived about an hour early – so, what do you think I did in the meantime…
Yup, I went food shopping… again! It seems that everyday I need something – today it was water bottles and something for dinner. I ended up filling my cart – nothing new since I always take full advantage of items that are on sale.
Joe and I made a trip to Home Depot in Brewster, NY. We have decided to renovate the master bath – Yahoo!
A very nice Fall display at Home Depot in Brewster
By using alot of materials that we already have – thinset, sheet rock, paint… Also, by using the same shower doors, toilet, mirror, vanity and cabinets – simply painting and changing the handles on them – will make a huge difference and keep our cost down.
Then back home – back to work and cleaning – cooking – and looking forward to watching the 2nd night of Dancing With the Stars!
During the Open House, a gentleman and his wife came, they had owned this home back in the 70′s – it was awesome to watch them view the home and all it’s changes.
When I arrived back at home, I was so happy to see that Joe was painting the kitchen walls- a creamy yellow. I was even happier that I couldn’t cook dinner. Yahoo – Chinese!
After dinner, we sang Happy 21st Birthday to Melissa – our oldest – did I say 21? Where have the years gone…
Melissa’s Birthday was on Thursday, September 17th – we had a special dinner, but no time for the cake since friends were taking her out to celebrate! Therefore, she has been celebrating all weekend!

Another busy day – I’m getting behind in my posts and that makes me unhappy.
Being busy is appreciated – and I really don’t know how to sit still!
On this 51st day, I did alot of driving around with our little rental car from Enterprise- Chevy Colbat
Since Joe has decided to paint our kitchen cabinets- yes, I know, I had said I was going to do it during his visit in Portugal – but never did! So, off to Home Depot in Danbury I went…
Bought some paint, primer and brushes
Dropped everything off at home where Joe had already started to remove cabinets, hinges, knobs and sanding everything down. I then dashed to Shaws for more grocery shopping….
Ran home, made lunch, made phone calls, sent e-mails, made appointments and was so excited about our kitchen redo!
Our “before” pics – dated 1970′s Kitchen Cabinets
Joe priming & removing cabinets
And to add to all of my excitment – I have a new listing!
Lots of running around today – 1st Joe and I went to the Savings Bank of Danbury in New Fairfield, CT to have some documents notorized for Allstate – yes, we are still working on our claim for Joe’s car that got totalled.
This was Joe’s “Zoom-Zoom” – Mazda
Then went to show a home in Carmel, NY - stopped at the office – then food shopping at A & P – back home – then off to Enterprise to rent a car… again!
Enterprise Car Rental in Danbury, CT
And – off to my favorite part of the day – had an evening Listing appointment! Great details about this wonderful home in Brewster, NY to come!
Then home for lunch with the kids – and back out into Danbury to finish up our school shopping - or at least I hope to finish up – at Staples. Also stopped at WallMart to buy Jonathan and David each a soccer ball and to Bob’s for sneakers and shorts for Jonathan.
Wallmart in Danbury, CT
After dropping off the boys, I went to show my listing in New Fairfield ~ CLICK ~ to very nice folks that had seen my For Sale sign.
View of Ball Pond from my listing on Hudson Drive in New Fairfield – a child on the docks and 2 others in a canoe - Priceless!
When I arrived home – the kids gave me the great news that we had no electric. My neighbor called and that confirmed that our entire block was out. It was still daylight, but I made sure to have candles and matches ready. Although, it wasn’t necessary, since in less than 2 hours, the electric was back on – Yahoo!
I got back to work – and at around 9:30 last night – BLACKOUT – no electric again. I could hear the utility trucks going up and down our block, so I knew the problem was being worked on. And after just a short time, all was back on again.
Interesting day today. Things are thankfully moving along with my clients offer on a Foreclosure. Met with my other client to get his signature for a price reduction. A beautiful home – with water views of Ball Pond in New Fairfield – the listing price is now…. CLICK here to find out!
While I was in A & P - a client – who I assisted in purchasing her home in Patterson – called to have me send her a listing for a friend. It was very nice to hear from her again. I always like when clients call or e-mail from time to time with an update on how things are going in their new home – always a pleasure.
A peek of my clients home before their purchase
When I arrived home, that’s when all the fun began…. Asthma kicked in full force and since it’s been acting up alot lately, I called my Doctor – too late, her office was closed – so off to Danbury Hospital – Melissa drove and I thought it would be to get a simple injection of steroids. Well, the joke was on me – when hearing that my chest felt as though someone was sitting on it – they whisked me off into a room in the ER – gave me a gown - a gown I thought! I just want an injection – but that wasn’t happening – an EKG, Blood Work and a Chest X-Ray later – I was finally given my shot and discharged – Whew! Although, I must admit that it was better to be safe, and now I have peace of mind knowing my heart and lungs are fine – no issues. Also, Melissa and I had a few laughs when one of the nurses came in with a tray a food. I really thought I wasn’t going home any time soon!
My Turkey Sandwich, Crackers an Apple Juice
After being well taken care by ALL of the Danbury Hospital Staff – Melissa drove me home. Poor thing still had to go into work at around 9:30 til after midnight to help straighten up and get the store ready for tomorrow -Hollister at the Danbury Fair Mall. I ate some dinner, then went to my clients home to change the listing price on the sheets that are placed in a brochure box near the For Sale sign outside for any interested pass-byers. I couldn’t wait until tomorrow – so off Amanda and I went at 10:15 in the evening – it would have bothered me that I did’nt go.
Rain, rain, rain… It came down as a heavy downpour and for quite awhile – flooding was everywhere, road blocks were up and even torn up roadways – it was crazy! And where was I in this mess – ?? Putting up a new sign in front of my Brookfield listing.
Before going to Brookfield – I went to our bank – HSBC in Brewster. Then off to show a condo in Danbury – here’s the pretty water view in the complex – where it had just started to rain.
After the sign was up, I went home – which took about 45 minutes instead of 15 due to the storm. I picked up my youngest, Jonathan, and took him to the local barber – Roberts Barber Shop near the New FairfieldPost Office. They always take their time and do a great job – better yet, with my crazy schedule, walk-ins are welcome. Then off to Shaw’s and… I couldn’t resist – since Joe is in Portugal – we had Chinese for dinner – Yum!
Morning appointment – a CMA(Comparative Marketing Analysis) in Brewster. A lovely couple with a beautiful house looking to put it on the market – I can’t wait to share this with you!
Then – off to the office – just for a bit until it was time to show a home in New Fairfield – 3rd showing.
By now I was starving, so I treated myself to an iced coffee and an old fashioned donut at Dunkin Donuts in New Fairfield
Then it was time to shop for hubby hub – he’s leaving for Portugal… tomorrow!
I was able to buy all that was needed in both stores. Went home, made dinner – then back out to take photos of a foreclosure and to show a condo in Danbury.
On this lovely day I had a ~ mammogram ~ Yup, I said it! Mount Kisco Medical Group in Brewster, NY- were fantastic! This was my first time and I can honestly say I will never hesitate to set up future appointments.
Since there were signed posted – no cell phone use! I had no other choice, but to put mine on vibrate – only checking my e-mail from time to time – and entertained myself by deleting photos from my camera – this helped to keep the jitters down.
After the good news that everything was A – OK – I was off to an appointment in New Fairfield – then home to grab my lap top – on my way to the office, I received the wonderful news that my clients offer on a foreclosure had been accepted – Yeah! I am so happy for them – they totally deserve this.
Then back home- where each time I drive in and out of my driveway – as well as my 2 kids that drive and Joe – we have Fo-Fo that refuses to move – he just stands in front of your car -
Fo-Fo – my in-laws pup ~ reason for my extra gray hairs
David made dinner – I went back out with Amanda to drop off some more brochures and other items for my listing in New Fairfield ~
What a day! David’s surgery was scheduled today – Putnam Hospital - and all went well – Thank God! Every one at the hospitalwas kind, courteous and kept his spirits up – and mine! His “coolie sinuses” are gone for good – no more infections to deal with. This is now David’s 2nd operation- he has had his appendix and gall bladder removed – he’s also already had a colonoscapy when doctor’s thought he had chrones disease – and… he is only 19 – a young man in an old mans body.
Hot diggity dog – he’s gonna kill me for posting this photo!!
David waiting to be taken to surgery
While David was in surgery, I was working away in the waitingroom. I was glad that the hospital had wireless connection. Work kept me busy and helped calm my nerves!
When it was time to go home, David was feeling fine… until he got into the car. I guess the pain meds wore off – so I called our pharmacy – Rite Aid- to fill the pain meds prescription. The pharmacist said there was an hour wait, but to see her and she’d have it ready in 15 minutes! I seem to be meeting lots of kind people today… and I like that.
Rite Aid in Brewster
Then, I dropped David off – flew to New Fairfield’s Food Market to pick up dinner – I know, I don’t care much to order out, but today was an exception or we wouldn’t have eaten until after 8pm – Oh, who am I kidding – I love to order out – just hate the expense and that it isn’t as healthy as home cooking – and that is why we don’t order out much.
The Food Center
Quickly ate, then had hubby-hub help put Century 21 VJFFor Sale signs together for my listing in New Fairfield – Went and put up 2 of them – one on the main road – Ball Pond Road – which fronts the house and another near their driveway.
And my last errand was a trip to Best Buy to buy season 1 & 2 of “House”for David – he had been looking forward to watching these episodes while recuperating. Before it got any later, I called a client from my car to set up an appointment to possibly list his home. Finally… home where I was up until around 3am – working.
First thing in the am – office meeting. Met with mortgage brokers from Bank of America. The have a great website: CLICK
After many phone calls – setting up appointments – discussing an offer on a foreclosure – finding out what the hay is going on with a delayed closing – and killing my cell phone battery, it was time for an outing with my oldest daughter. Melissa and I had some mother, daughter time at the doctor’s office… the gynecologists! Dr. Cumella in Brewster - fun, fun!
I also made ANOTHER trip to Shaw’s Supermarket – they are making a mini-fortune off of me…
Then passed by New Fairfield Auto – who I would highly recommend to everyone! I to pick up Joe’s items in his car – since it’s totalled and will be towed away… Goodbye zoom-zoom.
Where did today go? I woke up early, took care of chores, e-mails, calls, wrote a new post for my Blog, set up appointments. The next thing I knew – I was heading back from my appointment, getting home at almost 8pm. Luckily, my son David made dinner – grilled steak, mashed potatoes and green beans – I was starving when I got in and enjoyed eating dinner cold - I didn’t even bother warming it up!
My appointment was with a customer looking for a rental – we viewed a home in Mahopac, NY and 2 townhouses in Brewster, NY. All three were very nice, but our search will continue.
Tonight, I will take some time to myself and have a Friday Movie Night. I rented “Obsessed” from Redbox at Shaw’s yesterday, and my couch is awaiting! Just hope I don’t fall asleep during the movie as I always do.
There was so much to do today… contact a few agents regarding their listings – getting my oldest son, David, ready for his trip to North Carolina – he’s driving… I’m taking deep, deep breathes right now – Oh! and I submitted an offer – an over asking price offer - on a foreclosure. My client – first time homebuyer – was fantastic! Everything that got thrown at her today, she took care of it quickly and always laughing – “What is meant to be, will be” – was her positive attitude. This is how I feel we should go through life always saying…. “What is meant to be, will be.”
OK, them I flew to A & P in Brewster, NY - remember, 5 kids – I mean 5 eating machines – so I spend many, MANY hours in supermarkets every week. As a family, we eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and always have a big dinner together. Today, I grilled steaks and made potatoes, peas, salad and Portuguese rolls. A very quick dinner while working on the offer and calming my other first time home buyer – who’s closing is tomorrow!!!
After finding a Real Estate office your comfortable with, now you can search for a Realtor - one that suits the needs of their clients, being available evenings, weekends and holidays – a full time agent. Maybe you prefer someone who has experience, is full of knowledge, energetic, is up on all that is going on in TODAY’S market - including foreclosures, short sales and the explosion of networking with Facebook, Twitter, Active Rain, has a website and/or a Blog! If not, then at least consider an agent that has a computer at home so they have access to getting info at all times – and – a cell phone!
As a Realtor, I have come across agents that DO NOT HAVE ACELL PHONE – or don’t give out their cell phone number – or turn off their phones at 6pm – ?? Others that leave their laptop in the office, therefore not having access to the Multiple Listing Service until they’re back in the office – Mmmm?? In my book, these agents are part timers – not full time agents. I’m sure they have their reasons, and my guess is it works for them and they’re OK with it. But, if your not, make sure sure you ask questions BEFORE you set up an appointment to meet and go out with a Realtor. Ask why they got into Real Estate – because they love looking at houses and they can make their own hours – or – because they are passionate about selling homes, they eat, sleep and dream of Real Estate! Ask if they would be available when it’s convenient for YOU – what time can you call them until – what areas do they show and sell in. Also, while getting to know them, see if they seem honest, have a sense of humor, patience and are they LISTENING to you and what YOU need - you’ll appreciate all of these qualities in an agent to get you through the process of buying and/or selling your home which can be one of the most complex and significant financial event in your life!
Sometimes, when I’m out showing homes in the Carmel, Brewster, Patterson and Pawling, NY areas – I can’t help but to sing, “Home, home on the range…” Neilsphotography – Flickr.comWe don’t have any buffalo, but we do have lots of horses and cattle!

When I was a nursery school teacher, we would always celebrate the month of March with arts of crafts in honor of March coming in like a lion, and going out like a lamb.
Well, March here in the New Fairfield, CT area – as well as the Brewster, NY area – has had a harsh reminder that winter is still here. As we are under a “Winter Storm Warning” and this being the most severe winter storm of the season with areas in New Jersey as well as Long Island seeing up to 13 inches of snow and NYC schools being closed for the first time in 5 years! I just can’t believe that after having so much snow melt, we have a fresh, clean blanket of it… yet again!
My deck after our last big snow storm
After all the snow melted… finally! Taken just a few hours before the storm hit.
Photo taken this morning… and the snow still continues to come down!
Yesterday, I prepared for this storm by making a trip to Shaw’s supermarket in New Fairfield to stock up on a few things. Then after showing a home in Croton Falls, NY – a hamlet of North Salem, I took advantage of being near Block Busters and went in to rent a movie. My daughter, Amanda, has been taking a cooking class in school and offered to make dinner last night - Chicken Fried Rice – Yummy! I asked her to start early, since we have experienced once before an electrical outage smack in the middle of making dinner! I also had her double the recipe so we could have leftovers that could always be warmed up over the fire in the fireplace.
no3rdw – Flickr.com
We stocked up on wood for the fireplace, have pellets for the pellet stove, stored some water and have candles and matches on hand – again, just in case of the electric going out since the snow continues to come down and the wind is whipping everything around and is anticipated to continue through out the day and night bringing the temperatures in some areas 10 to 15 below zero!
Another important item that was on my list was to fill up the bird feeders. With all this snow, the birds and squirrels have so much difficulty finding food. As I work here at home today, I am entertained as I watch all the different birds come and go as they happily take sunflower seeds.
Accessibility to I-84 and I-684 – since we do have to work!
Great Schools – moved here with 5 kids and schools were very important to me. Don’t have school age kids? Please keep in mind that purchasing a home which a good school system is great for resale purposes!
Low Taxes – we have a comfortably spacious home on 2.1 acres – and pay less taxes than some homes that are 1/4 the size in my neighboring towns of NY.
Lot’s of choices for shopping in neighboring Danbury, CT including the Danbury Fair Mall -With a large family, I spend lots of $$ in groceries, clothing and other necessities – having choices and paying low taxes on items that are taxable is great!
Candlewood Lake – BEAUTIFUL!!! 60 + miles of shoreline – motorboats are allowed and if you don’t own one, no problem since you can always rent one!
Fresh air and scenic views – You can go hiking in Pootatuck State Forest or visit the state park of Squantz Pond- or just open your window and BREATHE!
Great for a first time home buyer and/or luxury buyer – There are 2 bedroom homes in the $200,000 price range, perfect for a first time home buyer – or large homes, some in private Candlewood Lake communities, for up to a few mil for the luxury buyer.
Lots of Wildlife- all I have to do is sit on my deck which faces the woods in my back yard. There we will see families of deer, foxes, wild turkeys, coyotes – and many have seen bobcat and bear - these last 2, I honestly hope to NEVER see!
Birds in my side yard
In the center of town you’ll find everything from Shaw’s Supermarket or for fresh meats and an awesome Deli, there is the New Fairfield Food Market. For a bite to eat there is Bruno’s Pizza, Biscotti’s, Portofino’s the local diner, Chinese take out and other eateries. There is also Gas stations and repair shops, Physicians and Dentists, Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts, Hair and Nail salons, our local Hardware store, Banks, Dry Cleaners, Video store – and of course our New Fairfield Post Office, Town Hall and Library. A small town life with all life’s necessities!
I plan on living here until I’m old and gray… sadly, both have already started!
Clouds are everywhere – where I live in New Fairfield, CTand where I work in Brewster, NY. We are due for a wintery mix – rain and snow which will then change over to ice. Although, I am pleased to say, that it doesn’t seem to stop my buyers who are looking to purchase a home.
takacsi75 – Flickr.com
and… as long as the driveways are plowed and walkways are clean to homes that we’re viewing – I’m good to go!

Viewing homes in the winter does have some advantages. You can see how cozy the house is – are there drafts – or possibly rooms that are poorly heated and/or insulated. Rooms can vary – for example those with vaulted ceilings hold all the heat high above. Simply installing fans to draw the heat down can help. Or, rooms that were once a porch and now enclosed, may need more insulation and so on.

Also, while viewing the homes property in the winter, when all the leaves and shrubs are gone, helps to see the entire acreage – along with what is neighboring the property.

So, I invite all those interested in going out to view homes – in the snow – ice – cold and wind!
Let it snow, let it snow, let it SNOW – and it did!

How exciting – it snowed here in New Fairfield, CT where I live and Brewster, NY where I work. If you haven’t noticed yet, it’s also snowing on my BLOG!
The kids were excited, thinking they were going to have a snow day – or at least a delay. Fortunately, the snowplows were out – plowing and sanding – making our roads as safe as possible – peace of mind for me since my husband leaves at 4:30 in the morning to make his way into New York City.

It’s raining – and at times pouring today. Here in New Fairfield, CT – where I live, and Brewster, NY- where I work, streams and rivers are rushing, reservoirs are filling, puddles are bountiful!
Click to view this slow moving stream in my backyard that was not so slow today!
I’ve decided to make this wet Friday a – Flickr Foto Fun Friday Post with pics of RAIN. Here are just a few of the photos that I have come across on Flickr.com. Whether it’s the object being photographed, the camera being used or the photographer – I am in awe with some of these fantastic pics – and – I admit, I am addicted to Flickr photos!
