Mahopac, NY a Great Community

Photo from Google Imagery
Mahopac, NY is a great community located in Putnam County and bordering Westchester County. It is approximately 50 miles from New York City which is accessible via the train in Croton Falls or on the Taconic State Parkway – or – Interstate 684.
The Mahopac Central School District has multiple elementary schools that are recognized as National Schools of Excellence and the Middle and High School are both New York Schools of Excellence.
The just under 9,000 residents have much to do in Mahopac - The most popular attraction is Lake Mahopac for boating, fishing, swimming and more on it’s approximate body of 587 acres.

With it’s fresh, clean air – parks and trails to walk or jog – one of which is Sycamore Park with 32 acres on Lake Mahopac - And best of all – Lake Mahopac along with a few smaller lakes.

My husband and I purchased our very first home in Mahopac – overlooking Lake Mahopac – many good memories there! Now, as I show homes there, I can see all the changes that Mahopac has had over these past 22 years. All the new shops and restaurants, new state of the art library with 33,000 square feet and Mahopac’s new firehouse.

If your interested in viewing homes – single family or condo/townhomes – in Mahopac, I would be pleased to show you around!
Channel Catfish Caught in Squantz Pond
My sister’s very good friend Janine and her husband, went fishing this weekend in Squantz Pond in New Fairfield, CT . On Saturday at 1:00 am, Janine and her husband were surprised when they reeled out of the water a Channel Catfish of the white variation - a rarely seen fish and not common in Connecticut!
The DEP was been notified and Janine and her husband will qualify for a Trophy Fish Award!
RISING HEAT CONTINUES IN CT & NY
The HEAT continues to rise in Connecticut and New York. Once again, many schools through out have early dismissal.
In New Fairfield, CT, we received an “Alert Now” message saying that the Senior Rec Center would be open all day for anyone needing shelter from this severe heat and humidity - and that CANDLEWOOD LAKE would be open – a GREAT place to cool off!
CANDLEWOOD LAKE is a man made lake with over 60 miles of shoreline. In 1928, Connecticut Light & Power began the process of making Connecticut’s largest lake with water from the HOUSATONIC RIVER.
In the 1940′s, summer cottages were being built around the 4 towns and city that surround the lake - BETHEL, BROOKFIELD, NEW FAIRFIELD, NEW MILFORD AND SHERMAN - along with the CITY OF DANBURY.
Now, most of the homes on and near the lake, are used all year round. They also have Lake Associations with clubhouses, beaches and private docks.
Candlewood Lake has been a favorite for residents and visitors to boat, fish, water-ski and jet-ski – or to just sit back, relax and enjoy the view!
WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR?
Thanks for GOOGLE IMAGERY
PUTNAM LAKE – Patterson, NY
Putnam Lake, is located in the Eastern part of the Town of Patterson, NY and neighbors New Fairfield, CT. It has always been a pleasure of mine to view – any body of water. Sometimes I have the opportunity of a few choices of routes to and from a place – if one of those routes has a lake to pass - that is the direction I will go! This photo was taken yesterday after dropping off my youngest son at his friends home in New Fairfield, CT – but must pass Putnam Lake in NY to get there – yeah!
Putnam Lake is approximately 0.4 square miles and is an interest for fishing, row boating and canoeing. No motor boats are allowed, which keeps the lake quiet and serene. It has it’s own “island“, Plum Island, which has a home and cottage on the property of approximately 1 acre. The residents row a boat back and forth to get on and off the island. When this home came on the market, during Realtor Open House Day, I was taken – by row boat – to view the home – very exciting!
