Day 78:
Today is Realtor Open House Day. Carolyn was so kind to set up all the homes we were going to view – along with a Pre-Revolutionary 1732 Homestead that was not on the Open House list, but we were very anxious to pre-view for potential clients. But first, before our fun afternoon, I went to the New Fairfield Post Office, then the New Fairfield Hardware store – Joe needed some caulking for repairs he’s doing to our front doors.

House #7 – Our absolute favorite! 148 Hurds Corners Road in Pawling, NY – a circa 1732 - Pre-Revolutionary Homestead – the Keeping Room which was once a tavern.

Yahoo – Realtor Open House Day! Went to the office - picked up 2 associates in my office ~ Century 21 VJF Realty - Carolyn and Eva.
But first – before the start of viewing homes - I had to FedEx checks to another Real Estate office for a client.
Then… we were off! Our first home was located in Hopewell Junction – an oversized Raised Ranch with a mother daughter set up – 14 Taconic Drive – Hopewell Junction, NY ~ CLICK ~ to View Listing Sheet. The listing agent – Susan – is a very good friend of mine and I wish her much luck with her new listing! Offered at $535,000.

It was great seeing Susan again, then off to house #2 -263 Old Quaker Hill Road ~ Pawling, NY ~ CLICK ~ to View Listing Sheet. This home was awesome! A gracious 1880 Quaker Hill – Pawling, NY residence, once owned by a sister of renowned broadcaster and Quaker Hill resident Lowell Thomas. Offered at $2,500.00

After viewing this wonderful home from the basement to the attic – and having a tasty lunch – Eva, Carolyn and I were off down Quaker Hill which is on the edge of the Connecticut and New York border and is recognized for its History and beautiful views including horse farms…
With full tummy’s – we made our way to Patterson, NY to view another home – 42 Jordan Drive – Patterson, NY ~ CLICK ~ to View Listing Sheet - the listing agent is another Realtorfriend – Jeannine. This cozy home is cute as a button and has had many updates making it a move-in ready home. Offered at $189,000.

Last, but not least ~ another fantastic home in Brewster, NY - 34 Indian Wells Road - Brewster, NY ~ CLICK ~ to View Listing Sheet. This home had wonderful details and each room was decorated beautifully.
Then I was off, solo, to Southbury, CT – to meet with an appraisor for clients purchasing their first home. I arrived about an hour early – so, what do you think I did in the meantime…

Yup, I went food shopping… again! It seems that everyday I need something – today it was water bottles and something for dinner. I ended up filling my cart – nothing new since I always take full advantage of items that are on sale.

Everything from the architecture to the furniture and decorative items - including this antique telephone, which brought me back in time. Or so I could wonder what it was like…

LIFE AS A REALTOR – Realtor Open House Day (5)
In Westchester County last Thursday, Carolyn – an associate Realtor in my office - and I saw some magnificent homes!
Our first home, currently on the market for $12,500,000 in BEDFORD - NY,was an 1927 Georgian Manor house built with original bricks from a 16th Century English Estate. With over 23 acres, a pool, barn, twin gate houses and a multi car garage – we were in awe while viewing every room, including the maids quarters, attic and we even dared to view the basement! All the while wondering – Oh! – If These Walls Could Talk.
We moved onto a lovely Country House in POUND RIDGE, NY. This home was built in 1958 and designed by Livingston Elder. With over 2 acres, a pool, fruit trees and overlooking the Ward Pound Ridge Preserve, making this home a private oasis. It is currently on the market for $1,395,000.
Last, but not least, we viewed another home in Pound Ridge, The Byron Stratton House - a Historical Pound Ridge Landmark. This Colonial, with over 6,000 square feet on over 6 acres, was originally buit in Connecticut, then brought over and rebuilt in it’s current position in 1934. Historic Fowler House – Carmel, NY
Another wonderful Realtor Open House Day. Carolyn and I made our way from East Fishkill, NY to Carmel, NY – leaving the best for last!
The Historic Fowler House, built in 1739, is a 5,410 square foot Farm House on 1.460 acres – holds 5 bedrooms, 2 full baths, 8 fireplaces and loads of history. Much of this homes original features still stand – from the trim work, windows, stagecoach mounting block and it’s very own ice house.
It is said that President George Washington stayed here - Oh, if these walls could talk ….
I wish I could go back in time! Visiting these historic homes through out up-state New York lets me feel like I am!

LIFE AS A REALTOR – Realtor Open House Day (3)
Another Realtor Open House Day this past Wednesday. An associate of mine, Carolyn, and I attended a Marketing & Technology Seminar in White Plains, NY. The seminar was given by Realtor.com and was educational. Unfortunately, it took us over 30 minutes to exit the parking garage!
We made our way back into Brewster, NY – making it to only 1 Open House in Brewster – but well worth it. The home is was listed for $349,000. It’s backyard leads up to Tonetta Lake and the 2 car garage has been converted into a home office – perfect for home based entrepreneurs. Currently, the homeowner houses her clothing business for plus size designs, Love Your Peaches.
Looking to save lots on gas by just taking a few steps from your home to your office – AND – when it’s time for your lunch break, looking at this view can be inspiring.

LIFE AS A REALTOR – Realtor Open House Day (2)
On Wednesday, it was Realtor Open House Day again here in Putnam County! An associate of mine, Carolyn Wachter and I, set out for our visits to our offices new listings as well as others.
It was a beautiful day, and the first home on our agenda was in Kent, NY – moving on to a new 55 and Better community, currently in construction in Carmel, NY and then – without even knowing - we made our way to Patterson, NY to view an older home – which is always at the top of our must see list.
The Federal Style House, built in 1795, is owned by an Academy Award Winning Actor. The wide-plank floor boards, the numerous fireplaces, the architect throughout the home was mesmerizing. I always find myself wondering what it must have been like living here over 100 years ago - no electric, running water, telephone – no television!
In the Patterson Historical Society Book, where this home is featured, Carolyn read that a previous owner would bring her cow into her room at night to sleep. I couldn’t help but think, “If These Walls Could Talk”.
The listing agent took us on a tour of the home from top to bottom and into the barn-turned-guest-house overlooking the 41 plus acres estate - BEAUTIFUL!
Oh, and I was also able to view “The Oscar” sitting in the corner of a room – the cherry on top of a perfect day – my day… in the Life as a Realtor.

LIFE AS A REALTOR – Realtor Open House Day
Every Wednesday is Realtor Open House Day here in Putnam County, New York. As a Realtor, Open House day is informative and fun! We view new listings and meet each listing agent. We also have the opportunity to get to know the area the home is located in and network with other agents.
Viewing my office’s own listings is important for us to be prepared for buyer calls. It is impossible for a listing agent to input every bit of information about a home into the listing sheet. Therefore, the listing agent shows us around, pointing out updates and facts about the home. This also helps if your an agent searching for a buyer who is viewing homes on line, viewing photos is never the same as actually being in the home – especially if there are little or bad photos!
Agents will host their Realtor Open House by serving lunch, dessert or give a bottle of wine. They also pass out a listing sheet on the property and answer any questions that we may have.
On our last Open House day, we had beautiful weather and I was able to take of few photos on our journey from one house to another. This photo was taken at Pegasus Farm - a Therapeutic Horse Facility in Brewster, NY. The other Realtors watched – and laughed – from the car as I attempted to take this photo – this cutie was very big and very intimidating!

As a full time REALTOR in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties in NEW YORK – and Fairfield and parts of Litchfield counties in CONNECTICUT , I am very pleased to have the opportunity to share my passions on REAL ESTATE, FAMILY, PETS, anything and everything in and around a HOME – including my COOKING, MOVIES, MUSIC and more!
I have been married for 23 years to my wonderful husband Joe. We have 5 children – Melissa, David, Amanda, Sara and Jonathan. After waiting anxiously – for almost 17 years, being home with my kids for 10 and a Nursery school teacher for 7 years – I FINALLY became a Licensed Realtor – first in Connecticut - where my family and I live – and then in New York – where my office, Century 21 V.J.F. Realty is located.
I was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, New York. My parents, who came over from Portugal, were extremely hard working – with even stronger ethics on being good to everyone – everywhere – period! “Faz bem, nao olhes a quem.” This has been instilled in me all my life, which has made me the mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend and REALTOR I am today.
